Your day begins with complimentary transportation from Chiang Mai city as you travel through the scenic Mae Wang valley into the surrounding mountains and jungle landscapes.

Upon arrival at the sanctuary, guests change into traditional Karen clothing before participating in a short educational session where your mahout guide introduces the rescued elephants and explains how they are cared for at the sanctuary.

You will then prepare a nutritious feast for the elephants before hand-feeding them and observing their personalities up close. Next, enjoy a memorable elephant jungle hike, walking alongside the elephants as they explore the forest, forage for food, and play naturally in their environment.

After the morning activities, guests enjoy a vegetarian Thai lunch overlooking the elephants, surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery.

Following lunch, guests participate in an elephant vitamin and supplement preparation session before feeding the supplements to the elephants.

The adventure continues with a peaceful elephant river hike, where guests walk alongside the elephants as they move through the river and surrounding jungle.

One of the highlights of the day is the elephant swimming and bathing experience, where guests can join the elephants in the water while they cool off and play.

The day concludes with a short walk to a beautiful jungle waterfall, where guests can relax, swim, and enjoy the tranquil natural surroundings before returning to Chiang Mai.

Throughout the experience, your knowledgeable mahout guides will share insights into elephant behavior, traditional elephant care, and the importance of ethical elephant tourism.

At the Elephant Freedom Project, we do not offer elephant riding and never force elephants to perform. All interactions happen naturally and at the elephants’ pace.

Tips to Enhance Your Visit

• Wear comfortable shoes that can get wet or muddy when crossing the river.

• Flip-flops are discouraged; sandals with straps or sneakers are recommended.

• Water levels may reach approximately 30–45 cm (12–18 inches) in some parts of the river hike.

• Bring water to stay hydrated during the jungle walk.

• Apply sunscreen and consider bringing insect repellent.

• Make sure your phone is fully charged for photos.

• Karen clothes are provided free of charge. These traditional outfits are lightweight, quick-drying, and comfortable.

• A swimsuit worn under Karen clothes is recommended for swimming with the elephants and at the waterfall.

• We recommend eating breakfast before your tour. Lunch is served at 12:00 PM.
